A kitchen island gives you a working surface at the centre of the room, and this one keeps the tools you need just behind a single door where you can reach them without stepping away from the counter. You will level the feet first, then drive the anchoring fittings into the wall before you load the shelves.
The pieces arrive flat, so you carry the carton through the doorway and build the carcass where it will stand. You set the floor rails, raise the sides, fit the back panel and the top, then hang the door and adjust it to the frame. The sheet numbers each step; you stop when the door closes flush and the unit is fixed to the wall.
Anything here that stands on the floor with drawers, doors or shelves belongs anchored to the wall. The consumer safety commission launched its anchoring campaign in 2015 and reported ten years later that tip-over injuries and deaths had fallen by nearly half; the instruction behind that number is the one sentence above. An anchoring kit ships in the carton, the job takes about ten minutes with a drill and a stud finder, and it is the last step of the build rather than an optional extra.
