A sideboard in a dining room or hallway holds the overflow that cabinets do not reach. At 53.4 inches of height it clears most chair backs and sits below window sills, so you do not block light when you fill the surface. Four doors hide the larger pieces, three drawers keep the smaller ones sorted, and the white finish reads as wall rather than furniture in narrow spaces.
You anchor this to the wall after you level the feet and before you load the shelves. The fittings wait in the carton, the step is numbered on our sheet, and you assemble the flat pack in the room where it will stand.
Anything here that stands on the floor with drawers, doors or shelves belongs anchored to the wall. The consumer safety commission launched its anchoring campaign in 2015 and reported ten years later that tip-over injuries and deaths had fallen by nearly half; the instruction behind that number is the one sentence above. An anchoring kit ships in the carton, the job takes about ten minutes with a drill and a stud finder, and it is the last step of the build rather than an optional extra.
